Make your way to Tracadie, a beautiful community known for its warm Acadian hospitality and expansive seaside views. We encourage you to book a shuttle from Bathurst Airport or the downtown core to join the tour. Once settled, explore the downtown market, where the aroma of homemade treats, local crafts, and friendly conversation offer a wonderful introduction to the area’s charm.

Meals:  Nil

After getting your bike fitted for the day’s ride, pedal through forested peatlands and past a protected bird sanctuary, providing an early glimpse into the region's rich ecosystems. Today’s route carries you parallel to Tracadie Bay, with coastal air, open views, and the islands of the Acadian Peninsula gradually drawing closer. Today offers a choice. Stay on the main route, or take a longer scenic detour toward Le Goulet Beach, where sandy shores invite a refreshing swim or a pause by the water. Both options lead to Shippagan’s elevated boardwalk, with beautiful views across the bay before the ride continues east toward Lamèque. As you leave Shippagan, the ride continues along the coast toward Lamèque, with the landscapes of the Acadian Peninsula unfolding around you. Your day ends at your hotel in Lamèque, where you will also find a lush ecological park known as a migratory route for a wide variety of bird species. Please exercise caution, as some road cycling may be required on certain sections, including the bridges leading to the islands east of Shippagan.

Meals:  B

Today’s ride carries you inland from the islands of the Acadian Peninsula toward Caraquet, with pristine woodland and wetland views along the way. Cycle along sections of a former rail corridor, now part of the Véloroute Péninsule acadienne, offering a pleasant route between the peninsula’s coastal communities. Caraquet takes its name from the Mi’kmaq language and is believed to mean “the meeting of two rivers.”

Meals:  Nil

Today’s ride follows the coastline near Caraquet toward Bertrand, cycling past picturesque villages and beaches along the route. Take time in the morning to relax on the beach and enjoy a breezy picnic before continuing inland on a lush, forested trail toward the Historic Acadian Village in Bertrand. Upon arrival, settle into your chateau stay before exploring the village, where local traditions, heritage buildings, and cultural experiences offer a glimpse into Acadian life through the centuries.

Meals:  B

If you have not yet experienced the Historic Acadian Village’s scheduled programming, we recommend allowing time to do so before hitting the trail. Your ride today starts with a relaxing inland forest trail, following a remote section of the Trans Canada Trail that connects the Acadian Peninsula Bike Route with Bathurst. Several cycling options are available today. Option A (57.6 km / 35.8 mi) follows more of the inland forested route, using a mix of trails and backroads for a scenic ride. Option B (60.3 km / 37.5 mi) includes a larger road section on the Véloroute Péninsule acadienne, passing through Grande-Anse, known for its Acadian lighthouse, sweeping bay views, and beautiful beaches, before reconnecting with the trail. Upon arrival in Bathurst, you will find a vibrant city set on the warm waters of Chaleur Bay. Also known as the “Bay of Warmth,” Chaleur Bay is considered one of the world’s most beautiful bays and serves as an important salmon habitat

Meals:  B

After breakfast, services conclude in Bathurst. We hope you leave with fond memories of your Acadian Peninsula adventure. If you would like to linger a little longer, we recommend arranging an extra night pre- or post-tour to enjoy more of the city and its coastal setting. The town’s waterfront is close to the downtown area, with quaint shops, picturesque boardwalks, a unique outdoor pavilion, and seasonal events throughout the year.

Suitability

Introductory to Moderate

Introductory to moderate. The Acadian Peninsula Bike Route is a collection of 610 km/379 miles of trail and road cycling that mostly makes use of bike paths, paved shoulders, and designated low-traffic road surfaces. Distances each day vary from 35 to 60km. Self guided walking or cycling requires individuals to use problem solving skills, be adaptable and have a keen eye. It is recommended that you are comfortable map reading, referring to route notes and that you have a good sense of direction (or are willing to work on improving this!). Cyclists will be expected to know how to fix a flat tire and make basic adjustments to their bicycles using the included repair kit. Sometimes route finding, losing your way, finding it again and asking the locals for help is all part of the adventure. If you’ve never been on a self guided trip, after the first couple of days you will get the hang of if as the vast majority of our first time travellers attest. Please be assured that our written material issued to you for route finding is updated regularly and we provide a 7-day service hotline in the event of any problems.
