Combining Your Passions – Wine & Travel 

If you’re anything like us, choosing where to travel next is as much about what activity you want to do as where you want to go. Will it be hiking in the remote trails of Newfoundland or kayaking off the coast of British Columbia? Or what about an arctic expedition? And then there are the food choices. When there are so many excellent activities to choose from, it can be hard to make a decision.

Whenever this happens, we think it’s best to choose a holiday that combines your passions – like cycling and wine tasting. You heard us!

The Okanagan Valley
As one of the sunniest regions in all of Canada, the Okanagan Valley would be hard not to love. Surrounded by mountains, pine forests and provincial parks, the Okanagan boasts not only excellent scenery but also a huge variety of outdoor activities. And did we mention there’s wine? Imagine cycling through vine-covered hillsides, stopping at vineyards to sample local wine, and picnicking on the beach all along a path that’s been converted from an old railway line. To top it all off, there are scores of sweet peach and apricot orchards lining the valley’s string of seemingly endless lakes.  If that sounds like the perfect mix, it’s because it is.

The Niagara Region
Niagara may have been made famous for it’s waterfalls but the rest of the region is known for its wine. On the banks of both Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, the Niagara Region is home to some of the country’s most renowned wineries, including the iconic ice-wine estates. Picture yourself cycling along its rural roads and pathways, getting up close to the canals and locks, taking in some of the best Great Lake scenery, and exploring the historic Fort Erie and Fort George. Of course, a trip like this wouldn’t be complete without a little wine tasting and you’ll have plenty of time to sample to your heart’s desire. The only thing you have to do is be ready to enjoy yourself!
